Augmentation
With years of simulated modeling, wind tunnel testing and field trials behind it, our Augmentation System has now reached a commercialized stage, consistently increasing the velocity of the wind stream powering a MAT unit's turbines by an average of 70%. Simply put- due to that fact that wind of higher velocity contains far greater electricity producing energy than lower wind speeds-augmentation at this level is a wind industry game changer.
The power in a wind stream is subject to the 'Law of Cubing.' For example, when a 12 mph wind speed is increased by 70%, to a velocity of 20.4 mph, the energy level of the wind is increased almost 5 times. Converted to actual electricity production, a 70% augmentation effect can result in over 3 times as much power being generated compared to the production by the ambient ('un-augmented') air stream powering wind turbines of an equal power rating.
Without augmentation, many locations are not a viable for the installation of wind power at a 20 meter hub height (while the local wind law ordinance prohibits 'tall tower' wind projects). Yet, with a 70% augmentation factor, a megawatt sized MAT / Augmenter System will produce as much electricity as a 300 ft. tall 'propeller' turbine with the same rating.
At a site with a higher grade wind resource, a 70% augmentation level would result in power production far in excess of the wind industry's acceptable production levels.
Commercialized augmentation, at any level above 50%, changes the equation for wind power generation, expanding the footprint of viable generation areas in an exponential fashion. Marginal wind resources become viable project candidates, while sites with high-level wind resources produce financial returns far greater than could otherwise be realized with 'traditional' generation equipment.
